Botanical Name: Prunus dulcis (Mill.) D.A. Webb.

Origin: Native to North Africa and Western Asia. Now cultivated throughout the Mediterranean region, Israel and California.
Botanical Description: A tree reaching up to 7-meter (22 ft) high. It has pinky white blossom and is popular as a garden tree.
Oil Extraction: Essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the kernels. The kernels are pressed and macerated in warm water for up to 24 hours and then distilled. It's then rectified to remove the prussic acid. Hence the oil is called Almond oil (FFPA-free from prussic acid). The oil is colorless mobile liquid. Yield around 1%.
Aroma Profile: Has a sweet nutty aroma reminiscent of almond kernels, cherry aroma.
Major Constituents: Benzaldehyde (95%).
Adulterants: Synthetic benzaldehyde.
Regulatory Status: GRAS 182.20 (FFPA-free from prussic acid).
Aromatherapy: Strengthening, sense enhancing.
Safety Data: Oral toxic. Avoid during pregnancy. Skin irritant.
