Synonyms: Atlantic cedar; Cedar Atlas; Moroccan cedarwood.
Origin: Native to Algeria. The oil is produced mainly in Morocco.
Botanical Description: An evergreen true cedar tree up to 40-meters (120 ft) high. The wood is very aromatic.
Oil Extraction: Essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the wood, stumps and sawdust. The oil is a yellow, orange-yellow to deep-amber colored viscous liquid. Yield 3 to 5%.
Aroma Profile: Has a peculiar oily-balsamic, sweet-camphoraceous top note, with sweet woody undertone. The dry out is sweet-woody.
Major Constituents: Atlantone, cedrol, β-caryophyllene, cadinene.
Adulterants: Rarely adulterated.
