Botanical Name: Juniperus mexicana Schiede.

Synonyms: J. ashei ; Mexican juniper; Mexican cedar; rock cedar.
Origin: Native to USA (mainly Texas), Mexico and Central America.
Botanical Description: A small to medium sized evergreen tree reaching up to 10-meters (30 ft) high. Has very stiff green needles.
Oil Extraction: Essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of dry, trunk and limbs. The oil is a dark orange to brownish, somewhat viscous liquid. Yield 1-2.5%.
Aroma Profile: Has an oily, rich sweet-woody top note (slightly smoky), with mild sweet-woody, somewhat balsamic undertone. The dry out is sweet-woody, less balsamic.
Major Constituents: Cedrol (25-48%), α-cedrene (10%), thujopsene (30-40%), β-caryophyllene.
Adulterants: Rarely adulterated. Virginia cedarwood oil can occasionally be mislabeled as Texas Cedarwood oil

Blends well with: Sandalwood, juniper, rose, cypress, patchouli, pine, spruce, vetiver.
