
Botanical Name: Chamamaelum mixta (L.)
Family: Asteraceae (Compositae).
Synonyms: O. multicaulis (L.); Anthemis mixta ; Moroccan chamomile.
Origin: Native to north west Africa and southern Spain. The oil is mostly distilled in Morocco.
Botanical Description: An attractive tall plant growing up to 130-cm (4 ft ) high, with hairy leaves and tubular yellow flowers, surrounded by white ligulets.
Oil Extraction: Essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of flower heads. The oil is pale-yellow to brownish-yellow, olive mobile liquid. Oil obtained from initial cuttings are greenish-yellow. Yield 0.3-1%.
Aroma Profile: Has fresh-herbaceous top note. Middle note is sweet with a rich-balsamic undertone. The dry note is sweet dry-herbaceous, very tenacious.
Major Constituents: α-pinene, santolina alcohol, germacrene D, 1,8-cineole, limonene.
Adulterants: Rarely adulterated.
