Pine essential oil

Botanical Name: Pinus sylvestris L.

Family: Pinaceae.

Synonyms: Norway pine; pine needle; forest pine; Scots pine; Baltic redwood pine.

Origin: Native to Europe, western and northern Asia. It's widespread throughout Europe, North America, Asia, Russia, Baltic States and Scandinavia.

Botanical Description: A tall evergreen tree up to 20 to 40-meters (66 to 132 ft) high. It has reddish-brown bark, long blue-green needles forming a terminal cluster. Has pointed scaly brown cones.

Oil Extraction: Essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the needles and twigs. The oil is colorless to pale yellow-green mobile liquid. Yield 0.1 to 0.5%.

Aroma Profile: Has a strong, fresh, sweet top note. The middle note is strong, turpentine-like, balsamic. The dry out is faintly sweet.

Major Constituents: α-pinene, β-pinene, bornyl acetate, δ-carene, myrcene, sabinene, limonene.

Adulterants: Other pine oils.

Regulatory Status: FDA 121.1163. 172.510.

Aromatherapy: Centering, refreshing, harmonizing

Blends well with: Cedarwood, cypress, rosemary, juniper, lemon, niaouli, lavender, sage, tea tree, marjoram.

Safety Data: Non-toxic, non-irritant, non-sensitizing.
