Fever Natural Cure

Fever occurs when the body experiences an increase in the temperature of the body as a response to diseases or illnesses. Though fever is considered an illness, it is in fact a symptom of a disorder. It is the normal way for the body to respond to an infection or toxins. Fever is measured by a device known as a thermometer. The thermometer contains mercury, which expands and contracts according to the temperature upon coming in contact with the human body. The normal temperature of the human body is 98.4 °F. Any temperature above that is categorized as fever.

The normal body temperature keeps fluctuating throughout the day. There are many factors which can affect the temperature of the body. In women, the menstrual cycle is the primary cause for fluctuations in the body temperature. Generally, in the second part of the cycle the temperature increases a degree or more than normal. Physical activities or strong emotions are some of the other factors that are known to increase the body temperature temporarily. However, this is not considered as fever. If the fever reaches a temperature of 107.6 °F or higher it would result in serious brain damage and could thus be very fatal. Children may also experience febrile seizures. However, these are only temporary and usually subside after treatment. This should not be confused with epilepsy. Fever can be caused by any infection—viral, fungal or bacterial. Autoimmune disorders may also cause fever. Persisting fever may be an early indication of cancer.

Fever Home Remedies

The treatment for fever is usually dependant on the cause of the fever. There are many simple remedies for fever which are caused due to infections. However, it is best to get a patient checked if fever persists for a long duration, as this can be an indication of a serious disorder. There may be some disorders which cause the body temperature to fall below normal too. These are all cases that should ideally be referred to a doctor. Generally, when the fever is mild, it is due to a bacterial or viral infection and subsides in 5 days to a week, after the viral life cycle has been completed. There is no need for specific treatment, unless you are suffering from other symptoms. During this time, it is important to drink lots of fluids and take plenty of rest. Fever treatment is generally based on a course of antibiotics or other medicines for curing the infection. There are home remedies like chewing basil or drinking turmeric in warm milk too. If the fever becomes intense, cold compression should be given using pieces of cloth drenched in ice cold water. This helps in lowering the body temperature.
