Hives Home Remedies

Hives is a type of skin rash that generally appears as red patches of raised skin. Hives is also known as Urticaria and generally cause intense itching. Urticaria is generally divided into two classes according to the duration of the rash; while acute Urticaria lasts for less than 2 months, chronic urticaria could last a lot longer. The most common cause for hives is an allergy where the rash is a result of the body’s allergic reaction to a substance that has been ingested. A combination of both these types of treatment of hives is found too be the most effective in controlling this rash. Food allergies such as allergies to shellfish, peanuts, and eggs often cause hives. The patient will have to follow a simple but balanced diet until the rash has subsided. In addition to this, the individual should drink plenty of warm water throughout the day as this will help to keep the body well hydrated. Drinking large amounts of water also helps to flush the system and so this will allow the allergenic compounds to be eliminated from the body. If the person has a history of certain food allergies and unknowingly ingests these foods, an emetic or a laxative can be used as soon as the person starts to show symptoms. This will not prevent hives but it will definitely help to reduce the duration of the rash by reducing your body’s absorption of the allergenic compounds. Milk of magnesia is considered to be an effective treatment of hives as long as it is consumed within a few hours of consuming the allergenic food. There are several natural cures for hives such as herbal teas and nettle tea. Herbal teas such as peppermint, valerian, and chamomile have a very soothing effect and help to reduce discomfort as also cure hives. Tea made from stinging nettles should be consumed at least twice a day and is a very effective natural treatment for hives. Applying a poultice made from fresh carrot and cucumber pulp and mixed with a little cornstarch, will help to reduce itching, thus treating hives.
