Varicose Veins Causes

Varicose veins are veins that have become swollen, enlarged, torturous, and raised above the surface of the skin. They have a twisted and bulging above the skin.  Varicose veins normally refer to veins on the leg, although varicose veins can occur elsewhere on the body. They can be dark purple or blue and are commonly found on the back of the calves or inside the legs. They develop when valves in the veins which allow the blood to flow towards the heart stop working properly. Varicose veins are a very common problem amongst people above 50 years of age. They are more common in women than in men. Varicose veins are more common in superficial veins of the legs which are subject to high pressure while standing. They can be very painful and itchy, but scratching them can cause ulcers.

  • Hereditary, hormonal changes during puberty, pregnancy, menopause, taking birth control pills, and being born with weak vein valves are major causes of varicose veins.

Varicose Veins Removal

You might have to undertake treatments such as sclerotherapy or ligation and stripping. Other varicose veins home remedies include exercising regularly, to maintain blood circulation in the legs. Keep your weight under control, as obesity is one the major factors in varicose veins. Do not try to stand or walk for a long time. While sitting, try to elevate your legs. Elevating the legs provides temporary relief. Wear elastic support stockings to improve micro circulation in the legs affected by varicose veins. This provides relief to the discomfort caused by this condition. Remember to include high fiber foods in your meals as constipation would only aggravate the problem. Avoid alcohol, as it can cause veins to dilate. If you have been sitting whole day, try and walk for half an hour walk so that the muscles can pump blood to the veins. You cannot change your genes, but you can keep your weight under control, eat a healthy balanced diet, exercise regularly, and wear lose comfortable clothing when possible. Prevention is the key. The earlier you start making changes in your lifestyle, the earlier you recover. Follow up with a health care provider if severe or worsening symptoms occur.
