Vitamins for Bodybuilders
Building a high quality lean muscle massed body isn't easy. Taking extra time
and planning in diet and exercise is only part of the equation. Adding the best
bodybuilding vitamins and supplements to your diet will enable you to reach
your maximum potential.
It's easy to forget that the cells in our bodies, particularly muscle cells,
rely on certain biochemical reactions for proper metabolism, growth and maintenance.
These reactions, in turn, depend upon specific vitamins to help catalyze, or
facilitate, their actions.
Without these vitamins, nothing happens. Even if only one of these critical
substances is deficient, a bodybuilder's progress can be stifled without warning.
Virtually every energy production or muscle growth process we rely on so heavily
is dependent upon, in one way or another, a vitamin. So exactly what vitamins
for bodybuilders should you be taking?
Bodybuilders almost universally take a multi-vitamin each day. Essential fatty
acids (including omega-3s), which the body can not synthesize, are also consumed.
Since anaerobic exercise is a very oxidizing process, most supplement with antioxidant
vitamins such as; vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B and selenium. Since joint
problems can cripple a bodybuilder's career, glucosamine, MSM (methylsulfonylmethane),
and chondroitin are taken to help promote strong joints. As with all supplements,
it is preferable to get the vitamin and mineral requirement from whole foods,
though this is not always convenient.
Supplements can help muscle gain and maintain size. Some such supplements bodybuilders
prefer are:
Creatine Products - Creatine is an amazing muscle and strength builder. It
is natural, found in red meat, and has been proven safe.
Protein Products - To gain muscle, you absolutely must take in enough of the
right kind of protein each day.
Glutamine Products - Glutamine is an incredible muscle builder that also increases
your natural growth hormone and immunity. It helps you to recover from your
workouts quicker as well.
Protein Bars - Along with your protein powder, you can get your daily protein
and other nutrients from great tasting protein bars.
Amino Acids - Amino Acids are the building blocks of protein (and muscle builders).
Like all supplements, these only help if used in conjunction with a solid nutritional
base and weight training program. As always, please consult a physician before
beginning any diet or exercise program.
