Do all Green Teas have the same healthy benefits or do the higher priced ones have more?
Good Question!
Loose-leaf tea is superior in both flavor and health benefits. Whole,
intact leaves retain the full components of the teas which are diminished with
the chopping, grinding and sifting that prepares tea for tea bags. Loose-leaf
teas unfurl while steeping and release their full aroma, taste and goodness.

Additionally, studies have shown that using boiling
water and longer steeping times increases the amount of polyphenols in the green
tea. Polyphenols are the antioxidants in green tea that are responsible for the
health benefits that green tea is believed to have.
The results of the studies done suggest that the following preparation
guidelines can boost the polyphenol level in green tea:
- Loose leaf vs. teabags - Loose leaves are preferable to teabags.
In order to increase the extraction of polyphenols, teabags should be
continuously dunked in the teapot rather than left to float on the water.
- Steeping Time - Tea should be steeped for two to five minutes.
The polyphenol content of tea increases with steeping time, while a shorter
steeping time results in a high caffeine content but low polyphenol content.
- Temperature - Boiling water promotes the extraction of
polyphenols.
Green Tea that comes in tea bags doesn't vary from a
health benefit stand point since the bags use bits of tea leaves. However, some
of our teas are organic and therefore cost more to grow and harvest - like
